“Sozo” is a greek word meaning “to rescue or restore” or “to make new”. The SOZO Collective originally started out as an LLC a friend and I formed to create handmade furniture, decor, and goods as well as repurpose and restore older furniture and goods. We envisioned a collective of “makers” and “doers” who could work together to lend their services and expertise to do good work in their communities as well as give back and do good in our world through both the proceeds and their skills. Just as we were getting going though, extended family issues in my business partner’s family detoured him and he and his wife had to move states.
Since we did not have enough momentum of any kind to keep the business going at that point, we shut it down. However, I kept our company registered in Kansas because I had already finished the website and branding and I had an idea for something it could be used for in the future.
Two years later, I put SOZO, LLC to work again. I decided to go “full-time” with my freelance web development, branding, marketing, and copywriting. I re-branded for the business name to match the exact domain name (pretty handy really), and have now streamlined all of my professional work to flow through SOZO.DO. We specialize in cause-driven organizations and small businesses, and I partner with other creative professionals as needed to accomplish more work (thus we still use the “SOZO Collective” branding too).
We have some big ideas for the future of what we are doing and what we specialize in, but let’s not spoil the surprise.
