DENY Disciple Training is a past project of mine. Beginning in 2009 and running through 2013, I designed a “disciple training program” that took dozens of young adults through an intensive eight week lifestyle of learning on what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
This was a training for believers of the Christian faith, both new and experienced, to practice living in authentic community and to really grow in understanding of what the Bible is about, what God is asking of them as individuals and a community, and how to live that out in everyday ways. It focused on the individuals involved in the training and the community they were a part of, and not a preset list of plans, rules, programs, and reading.
It was a rather complex beast, but really a ton of fun and powerful to do.
After taking dozens of college students through it on my own during the summers of ’09 and ’10, a collegiate ministry I worked with adopted it as their official summer program for their students, and I lead it through the summers of ’11 and ’12.
I began work to take all of our resources and content online in 2013. I especially wanted to make the skeleton booklet I had designed, for the groups to structure their time together, available for people to download and use.
However, we ended up moving cities in the middle of 2013 to help plant a church in Lawrence, Kansas. I started a new business that year to fund ourselves in our new city and DENY was placed on hold.
Due to other projects that have demanded attention, I have never picked up the work again and continued the development and refinement of DENY Disciple Training. I do not know if I will ever launch the website and if the training and resources will ever be put to use again or not.
If you’re interested in the project and would like to discuss anything about it, feel free to contact me. I’d love to talk about it and explore possibilities of future partnerships, ideas, or development of the work.
