It’s been a great week in terms of the college ministry, the church, my future, meeting and talking with other leaders and ministry workers, and there’s still more to come! This weekend I’ve got a speaking event coming up that I’m super excited about! So, here’s a real quick update!
THE KNCSB MEETING AND LATELY
I had the privilege, and I mean privilege, of attending the Kansas Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists annual meeting Monday and Tuesday (why there was no early week posts). This was a great time of fellowship and such a great learning and networking experience for me!
I’ve joked with many that I’m a bit of a novelty item in that crowd. The majority are older gentlemen all quite clean cut with the shirts tucked in and years of experience under those belts as well! However, I’m running around looking all scary and like they need to share the gospel with me!
Also, I’m pretty sure Margo and I were the youngest folks there. All that added together though, means that I got to meet a great number of people! I love their hearts and the spirit that this bunch brings!
Sure it was a lot of budget and business talk, but there was a lot of Bible teaching, strategizing, and worship as well. My favorite is the networking though! I ask a lot of questions! It was super encouraging to rub shoulders with such an amazing few hundred people! It was great to meet new names and faces that have already done things I’ll likely do in the near future, as well as to interact with that familiar names and faces.
One of the characteristics I admire most about these people is their willingness to encourage and affirm. I’m continually blown away by the way they not only invest themselves, but really give of their words and affirmation. Maybe this isn’t a big deal to some, but to me, this is really quite astounding.
Perhaps it’s cause the majority of people I work with are college students? I dunno, but to be around a group who is so secure as to continually speak of how they are “impressed with you, pray for you, desire to work with you, can’t wait to see what more God does with you”, etc., is so motivating and inspiring! I hope to be a leader like that! Because of the impact it always has on me, I can’t imagine not ever being that for somebody else.
Oh, and lately… We’ve been working on and through many growing pains in both my church and our college ministry. This continues to need prayer and we continue to need guidance. However, we are receiving it slowly and surely. I’m always encouraged just to see progress! :)
THIS WEEKEND I’M TEACHING A RETREAT!
Here’s something I’m most excited about right now! I have the awesome opportunity to do something I’ve come to enjoy as much as anything else in life: to teach and speak about the word of God and his story and how it affects our lives in every way! I’ll be doing a multi service series of teachings this weekend with a youth group from Guymon, Oklahoma!
On top of it all, it’s kinda like a vacation. I mean, really, we’re going to be staying in a lodge in Red River, New Mexico! Who could complain about that!? Also, a great friend, Ben Housman, who leads with me here, will be traveling with us and leading worship. Looking forward to the drives, the company, the teaching, the relaxing, and on and on. Shoot, I think my mom’s even going to be there – no kidding! Haha.
Pray that my words will be clear and both challenge and encourage the youth! Pray that God will be glorified and honored with our time and that they will hear exactly what he wishes them to hear! Pray that we will invest well, being intentional about making the most of our time with them!
I’m excited! We’re excited! Let me know if you have any questions! I’d love to chat! Let me know what’s going on your life as well, and how I could be praying for you! Thanks for your support!
