I’m glad you’re here, but I don’t know why yet. I just know that people who go to “about” pages are explorers! They’re thinkers! They’re learners! This means we have some things in common already, and I think we’ll be pals! Dang, this is starting off well…
Who Am I And What Am I All About?
I’m assuming you read the fly-over on the home page? So, additional now…
Does a person say who they are based on what they do, how they act, what they like, what they believe in, or even who they know? It’s kinda all the above isn’t it?
So how can I sum this up?
I’m a young man loves Jesus and my wife, and does many things. I’m big on adding tangible value to the community I am in (which is currently Lawrence, KS). I have a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations. I am a web-developer, marketing, copywriting, branding, and just general communications nerd. I also operate multiple websites for various reasons.
I geek out on personal, organizational, and business development, leadership, technology, web development, psychology, sociology, philosophy, theology, education, health, music, and… Okay, plain and simple, I just like to be #alwayslearning — no matter what it is.
I used to be in full-time ministry and was, you could say, “advancing” quickly. My story took an unexpected turn into business as we moved to help plant a church and needed more income. I’ve now ran my own businesses (SOZO.DO is still happening), done freelancing and consulting, and am currently learning both better copywriting and software coding skills. It’s been a strange and winding path — hard work, a bit stressful, very rewarding — and I love it.
I enjoy developing people and organizations and helping them accomplish their desires. I love writing, speaking, teaching and equipping others, and again, always learning in order to do it better.
So, I’ve realized that if I’m going to be always learning, then I’ll also be always writing (hence my many blogs). They just come together in my life. I often say:
I’m not sure if I write to think or think to write, but I’m sure they work best together!
I still believe I’m “finding my voice” as I constantly run multiple experiments and projects I care about.
It’s not always the most efficient way to work, and I hate wasting time, but sometimes we have to experiment to see what works. We all want to have the perfect About page that tells of our life “convergence”, but having lasting value to back up your hot air takes loads of character development, mentoring, and honing through experience of successes and failures.
In case you haven’t noticed, each year I pick a sort of “mantra” that seems to be my focus or a core to who I am and what I’m about at the time. Previously it was #ThinkWell, and the last two years’ have been #AlwaysLearning.
#AlwaysLearning has been an extremely fitting mantra. Not just because I happen to be existing in a state of limbo and learning-in-betweenness, but also because I realize more and more that I simply love learning… I’m good at it even! I’d make a career out of just learning new things if that was possible. You can bet that if I’m learning something new, I’m having a good time!
If you’d like to have a good time with me, or think I could help you have a better time, then send me a message! I’m always open to new ideas and love a good challenge. I’ll be quick and transparent on letting you know if I can help. I’m not into waisting time.
Oh, and if you’d like to hear a very personal take on my story, I wrote that up for you: My Bio. It’s long, but there’s an audio version and I’m told it’s an interesting read / listen. Eh?
My Views And Values
I live transparently because if you read my story (linked above) you’ll know I used to be a relational con artist before I had a spiritual whoopin. I’m not ashamed to say I have a well developed and cohesive worldview now, and it affects everything I think, say and do. Everything in my worldview centers on the person of Jesus Christ and my satisfaction of glorifying God by making much of Jesus. I’d be faking to play dumb about it.
However, this also means I long to create true and lasting value in people’s lives and the communities I’m involved in. I want people knowing they are loved, important, and have an eternal value far beyond what they can imagine. Where does this come from? Well, if you want to get a robust feel for my worldview, even better than my bio would provide, read these three books below. We’ll have an eternity of stuff to talk about if you do (pun intended), and then I’d love to talk to you about it!
The first book explains my worldview and purpose in life, and the second one explains my work ethic and production in life. My identity is clarified and my foundational purpose is unwavering purely because of the truths revealed in the third book (the Bible) and it’s what the first one is based off of. Read the first two at least once per year. Read this third one once per day. Any questions? Shoot me a message! Click on any book to go buy it and we can chat about it!
What Goes Down On This Site And Blog
I’ve been regularly writing and blogging for profit and pleasure since 2003! Still, it’s never been a great enough focus to pay the bills — so I’ve done many other things so far. I’m still usually spread out in my interests and projects.
So on this site, besides displaying my work, I write about work and topics that have to do with marketing, community management, copywriting, coding, and the projects I’m working on and what I’m learning as I go. This means I used to write a great deal about theology and ministry (as that was my profession), but now, though I still do that, I don’t do it here.
My Schedule And Output
As far as how often I write here, I usually post once a week. I also post on many other sites around the web each week including a few of my own, and then I guest post for others at times. I wrote a post about where I’m currently producing content that you can check out. So actually, I write every day! For the good stuff, I’ll usually link to them here on my Published Elsewhere page or even drop a link to them into the feed of this blog if they’re relevant in some way.
